Fresh Roots CSA Veggie Box FAQ
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a partnership between the farmer and you with both of us sharing some of the risks, as well as the bounty, of the farm. This agreement outlines our shared commitments.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN MY WEEKLY SHARE?
You will receive 5-7 items per week depending on seasonal availability. Over the course of the season, you’ll receive an average of $22.50 worth of produce per week.
The following is a list of some of the produce we expect during a season. This list is not all-inclusive, as we grow many different types of vegetables and it is based on our best estimate. Weather, pests and other events will affect actual production and thus the variety and quantity of produce provided.
June: salad mix, Asian greens, arugula, baby lettuce heads, beets, broccoli raab, cauliflower, chard, garlic scapes, kale, peas, radishes, salad turnips, rhubarb, scallions, spinach and turnips.
July & August: beets, carrots, cucumbers, zucchini, eggplant, garlic, green beans, lettuce heads, peppers (hot & sweet), potatoes, summer squash, tomatoes, and zucchini.kale, chard, fennel, radicchio, basil, parsley
September & October: beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, kale, leeks, lettuce heads, onions, potatoes, radishes, turnips, herbs and winter squash.
WHAT IF I CAN’T MAKE IT BY 7pm to PICK UP MY SHARE?
If you are a little late, please let know before 6:30pm by calling 778-764-0344 ext.113 and we’ll do our best to work something out.
WHAT DO I DO IF I CAN’T PICK UP MY SHARE?
If you can’t pick up your share, feel free to send a friend to pick it up for you. All we need is the name of the owner of the share provided to us at pickup. At this time, we can’t offer pickup anytime outside the pickup hours.
CAN I SPLIT MY SHARE WITH A FRIEND OR COLLEAGUE?
You can absolutely split your share with another household or community member. Anyone else in your household or community can pick up and give your (the purchaser’s) name to our team at pickup. If they would also like to receive the newsletter, let us know and they can be added! We have heard that the quantity is just the right amount for one week for a household of 2-3.
WILL I GET A NEWSLETTER OR RECIPE EACH WEEK BEFORE I PICK UP MY BOX?
Yes! Our members-only Veggie Box weekly newsletter is filled with food journalism, recipe ideas, photos and updates on Fresh Roots farms and programs and will be shared the day before (if not sooner) each pickup day.
DO YOU DELIVER?
No, we do not deliver. Pick up will be at the Italian Cultural Centre between 4-7 pm with self-serve pickup from 7-8 pm. Check out the map here.
WHEN CAN I START PICKING UP MY VEGGIE BOX?
Veggie Boxes will start at the beginning of June and end in mid-October. We will send out the exact date closer to the beginning of pickup.
* Please note, due to the unpredictability of weather and farming, we may adjust the start and end dates by a week to make sure we are off to the best start. Don’t worry! The total value of your share will be the same.
DO YOU USE PLASTIC AND PACKAGING?
Yes, we do. We use some limited plastic bags for products like salad mix to maximize their shelf life and protect them during transport. Please bring your own bag or container to bring your share home in. If you forget, we have paper bags available.
IS FRESH ROOTS ORGANIC?
Fresh Roots follows organic practices but is not Certified Organic.
WILL THERE BE A SWAP BOX FOR ITEMS I DON’T LIKE?
We are not doing a swap box this year due to covid concerns. We will update this policy in accordance with changing public health guidelines.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY?
You may cancel your share up to two weeks before the first pickup day, for a full refund minus the $50 non refundable deposit. We are happy to have someone else take over your share anytime during the season. Please note, you are 100 %responsible for coordinating the transfer of the value of the box and providing Fresh Roots with contact information in order for us to share newsletters and important information.
IS THERE PARKING AVAILABLE AT THE ICC?
Free parking is available in the front parking lot of the Italian Cultural Centre.
